CORE SUBJECTS

We take the 3 Rs very seriously because they are the foundation of everything that your child will do throughout his or her educational and working life. We place a strong emphasis on being able to read fluently, write accurately and understand mathematical concepts. Our aim is to give every child the greatest possible strengths in verbal and numerical appreciation, so that they have maximum opportunities for further study at their senior schools.

ENGLISH & MATHS
Our teaching makes full use of computer technology as well as books and other teaching and learning resources. We encourage pupils to read widely and to write creatively. We make maths fun as we explain why it is important and how the various techniques work.

SCIENCE
As the children progress through the school, they learn increasingly complex topics. Again, the emphasis is on making the subject fun, understandable and something the children feel comfortable with in their everyday lives.

LANGUAGES
The ability to communicate with others is not only vitally important for our children but also develops their overall communication skills. At York House we teach French to all children from Year 1 onwards and everyone goes to France for a whole week during Year 7. We also teach Latin from Year 5 and there is an optional club for Spanish, which is also learnt in Pre-Prep!
