ISI Inspection Report 2011 Quote

The Middle School is a co-educational department from Year 3 to Year 5. These years really help to focus and build their educational skills, preparing each pupil for entering our Upper School in Year 6. The children develop the ability in learning and to achieve a greater knowledge about their core subjects and the broader world.

We aid the personal development of each pupil, giving a solid grounding in all subjects. We aim to give the children a love of reading, writing and discussing topics. Working in groups and independently allowing them to make rapid progress with increased learning in an enjoyable and supportive environment. The ability to think, discuss and express thoughts and concepts, helps build confidence in the children, develop strong friendships with classmates, while learning to work co-operatively with one another.

Our close personal and family-like environment helps to bring out the best in each pupil, as we teach them the value of respect for others, within a structured, happy and caring department. We try to install good listening and learning habits, which are so important throughout their lives. With our modern and excellent facilities, the classrooms are stimulating and vibrant places to learn.

Most teaching is taken by their form teachers, working alongside specialist subject staff from our Upper School. In the Sports Department, we aim to develop each pupil’s interests in a variety of sports. School matches are introduced, where every child takes a place in a team.  In Music, a Middle School Choir is formed and many children begin to take individual instrumental lessons and exams.

The curriculum maintains a keen emphasis on English and Maths, but there is plenty of breadth from the other subjects studied – ICT, Science, History, Geography, RS, French, Art, Design Technology and Music.  There is plenty of breadth in our ever expanding list of clubs, both before and after school each day, for each pupil to enjoy.
