Finishing touches to a beech bowl

Design Technology develops the children's artistic work and extends it to the wider principles of how things are designed and made.   We work with a variety of materials including wood, metals and plastics and our dedicated Design Technology studio is fully equipped with specialist tools and equipment.

Pupils learn not just how to work with the different materials, but also when each is appropriate for a task and what can be done with combinations of wood, plastics and metals.   They also learn how to plan projects and the importance of practicality and feasibility as well as originality.   Safety is paramount and one of the most important things we teach is to treat tools and machines with care and respect.  Project work becomes increasingly sophisticated as the children grow older and our DT studio is full of great examples of creativity and skill.
