York House

Sport is an integral part of life at YH with pupils timetabled to be running around and making the most of our unique sports facilities for over five hours a week, and this does not include after school and break time clubs or even morning practices.

We have a ‘sport for all’ mentality across the board, and we look to develop pupils’ confidence, ability and understanding in a vast array of sports helping them prepare for the next stage of their journey. We aim to promote lifelong participants in sport and physical activity through nurturing their enjoyment and passion, providing links with our local club community over each academic year. Our pupils must play a sport in the right spirit, understanding the importance of both winning and losing while realising that progression and a positive growth mindset is key to moving forward on their individual or collective sporting path.

There is a traditional fixtures programme for pupils of Years 3-8 in football, netball, hockey, rugby, cricket, athletics, badminton, rounders, swimming, tennis, triathlons & cross-country. We hold local festivals and tournaments throughout the year and enter various IAPS and National competitions. Children also get an opportunity to go on UK sports tours either yearly or every other year as they look to broaden their sporting horizons. Where possible we seem to get all our pupils in fixtures every week, ensuring that all ability levels and ages enjoy their sport.

York House is very proud of its sport, not just in terms of achievement but more importantly in terms of participation. The department is passionate about driving enjoyment forwards as the school moves into a new and exciting era of co-education. We look to produce resilient and self-reliant pupils who develop in confidence year on year and who play smile on their face.
