York House

York House School maintains its charitable status by doing an amazing amount of  charity work that far surpasses all expectations for private schools. There are always deserving causes that are voted for by the school that are passed to the school council to ultimately decide which charity we will support each term.

Amazing charities that the school have supported include our annual poppy collection, P.H.A.B., M.I.N.D., The British Heart Foundation, Battersea Dog’s Home, Herts Inclusive Theatre and most recently Mary’s Meals where in excess of £3300 was raised. Our Harvest assembly food collection is  donated usually to the Watford Foodbank.

The school has been in partnership with 9 primary school, which has benefitted in excess of 120 state school children.  This has taken place through the use of our swimming pool and our extensive sports facilities. Local primary schools are invited for York House School football tournaments, inter school cross country events.  St. Paul’s School Langleybury continues to use the swimming pool each week with York House providing transport for the children and the local MENCAP group continue to use the school grounds for a local Archery club.  Whilst we continue liaison with outside sports clubs such as Chorleywood Cricket Club, Sarratt U.13’s Football Club, Watford Town Football Club and Abbots Youth Football Club through use of our sporting facilities, the school also offered the use of the grounds for camping to “Skills Force”, a new charity whose patron is Prince William, and the swimming pool to the local Sea Cadets. Other clubs involved in using York House facilities include Ickenham Ladies football teams playing the girls from YHS on Open Morning. Also, Batchworth Sea Scouts used our grounds for a sports day.

We also provide specialist PE staff to help coach different year groups from Harvey Road Primary School on Monday afternoons, as well as St Clement Danes Secondary School where a coach is provided to help coach their U.14’s Rugby team. An IT specialist goes over to Greenfield Primary School for specialist teaching and advice given for the provision of IT within the school. Resources have been given for playground activities to the same school. Our latest initiative is from our classics department who is introducing, “Classics for all” encouraging all local primary school to introduce Latin in a friendly child centred way to their curriculum. Other clubs that use York House facilities include Redheath Archery Club use our the grounds, plus Chorleywood Cricket Club use the pitches at weekends.
