Ataxia UK Sponsored Walk
On Friday 23rd June, Year 1 to Year 8 took part in a sponsored 30 minute walk around the School playing fields. Some children and staff including Mr Bungard made it a sponsored run, all for the highly deserving charity, Ataxia UK.

The final total is a fantastic £2862.32
 - quite an incredible amount of money; well done to everyone at York House for this magnificent achievement.
Pupils took part in their mufti clothes, but there were some children determined to run for 30 minutes in their extremely hot onesies! Luckily there was lots of water available at the end of each lap.

The school had previously had an assembly telling the children all about Ataxia. Mrs H Ashton led the Assembly as the charity is very close to her heart and she has been a wonderful supporter of Ataxia UK for many years.

Everybody learnt Ataxia is the name given to a group of neurological disorders that affect balance, coordination, and speech. Around 10,000 adults in the UK have a type of Ataxia. Ataxia UK is currently funding research to find out how many children have the condition – it’s thought there are several thousand.

The money raised will go towards the research that has targeted a cure by 2020.

It was a fantastic and fun event! Mr Telfer would like to thank all parents, staff and especially the children for their impressive and enthusiastic participation in walking jogging and running. The sponsorship has already raised an amazing several hundred pounds.
